Summer of IP 2024

Posted on July 03, 2024

Last week Abel + Imray hosted a Summer of IP event at our London office.

Abel + Imray was delighted to welcome twenty four impressive potential new entrants to the IP profession to our taster day last week, held as part of the IPInclusive Summer of IP campaign.

The day started with a Meet and Greet with Managing Partner Rhys Williams followed by a session by Emily Dodgson and Julia Coggins on an ‘Intro to Patents and what we are looking for in Patent Trainees’.

Caroline Brooks led a session on an ‘Intro to Trade Marks and what we are looking for in Trade Mark Trainees’.

During lunch, attendees got to speak with each other and ask questions to A+I support staff and attorneys.

In the afternoon attendees got to ask current patent trainees Alessandro Giovannone, Amelia Thompson, Thanishta Mungur, and Will Vickery questions about their experience thus far, while partner Rebecca Atkins gave insight on the training process from a trade mark perspective. Rhys Williams then held an interactive session on drafting, followed by a workshop with Emily Dodgson on ‘Interview, CV, and application form technique’.

We held a Q+A session to round up the day and put on a drinks reception for the attendees to ask any further questions to A+I staff and other participants.

All of us at A+I are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace for everyone who works here. It was a real pleasure to run this event to encourage a broader range of people to pursue a career in IP.

Feedback from attendees on the day was positive and we felt like it was a rewarding event for all involved.

If you're interested in a career in IP, then keep an eye out on our website and LinkedIn for any future events we may hold. Trainee vacancies for Autumn 2025 will be advertised on our website in autumn/winter 2024.

If you missed this event, then please take a look at the Summer of IP website which lists events being held by other firms as part of the Summer of IP campaign. The IPInclusive Summer of IP campaign will continue to run throughout summer 2024 and aims to raise awareness of IP-related careers, encourage a wider range of people to pursue them, and improve access to them by providing “taster” activities and guidance.
