Gavin joined Abel + Imray in 2016 and re-joined us in 2025 following stints with an IP firm in New Zealand and Singapore. He is involved in patent work in the biotechnology and chemical fields with a particular focus on antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates, cancer vaccines, T-cell therapies, diagnostic methods, small molecule therapeutics and drug repositioning.
Before joining Abel + Imray, Gavin spent 4 years working as a research scientist at a global pharmaceutical company. During this time, Gavin was involved in the design and development of novel neurotoxin-based therapeutics. His work contributed to the selection of two clinical candidates, and he is an inventor on several patent families. He was also the industrial supervisor for a structural biology PhD student at the University of Bath.
During his PhD studies, Gavin worked in collaboration with a biotechnology company to investigate the use of cell penetrating peptides for the intracellular delivery of therapeutic antibodies. Gavin’s broad technical background in chemistry and biology allows him to quickly gain a deep understanding of his clients’ inventions, particularly those of a multidisciplinary nature in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields.
