able to represent clients in matters before the UK Intellectual Property Office
(UKIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), the UK Courts and the Unified Patent
Court (UPC).

Matthew
joined Abel + Imray in 1996 and is based in our Bath Office. Matthew is one of
our Joint Managing Partners and leads our Defence group. He supports well-known
clients, including long-term arrangements on-site with their patent departments
and directly with engineers, who benefit from his insights improving
invention-spotting and IP-harvesting across their research and engineering
functions.
Matthew has special expertise in patent applications relating to
optics (especially lasers, optical fibres, metamaterials and also
ophthalmology), radar and software. Matthew built novel laser systems in obtaining his Ph.D. He is a Chartered Physicist
and a member of various professional bodies including the IEEE and the Optical
Society of America.
