From 1 May 2025, Registered EU (Community) Design renewal fees will significantly increase, as set out in the table below. The renewal period is also changing, which in most cases will bring the renewal deadline for EU designs forward.
Applicable EU design renewal fees will be calculated based on the date the renewal application is filed, so the new increased renewal fees will apply to renewal applications received on or after 1 May 2025.
Design holders with designs that can be renewed prior to 1 May 2025 should file their renewal applications as soon as possible, and by 30 April 2025 at the latest, to benefit from the current renewal fees, rather than waiting until the end of the renewal period. That covers anyone with EU designs due for renewal up to 29 October 2025.
In addition, design owners should be aware that from 1 May 2025, the renewal period will end on the anniversary of the filing date, rather than on the last day of the month in which that anniversary falls, as is currently the case.
